Plastiplate celebrates 25 years of operation

PLASTIPLATE of Roodepoort recently celebrated the 25th year of its founding, making it the oldest existing plastic electroplating company in SA.
The company’s fully automated chrome and electroplating plant in Adderley Street, Horizon, is able to apply chrome, nickel, anthracite/gun metal, nickel, antique brass, copper and standard brass finishes to plastic components.
The company was established in 1986 by Bazile Zak and Silvia Kolzewski, and was bought in 2008 by Cornelius Vogel, who now runs the business with his wife Lisa and brother-in-law Victor Gomes.
Vogel, who qualified as an engineer at Wits in 1990, was originally involved in the supply of furniture fittings and, during a search for handles, heard that Plastiplate was for sale and subsequently bought the business. Most of the work is obviously decorative and, as a result, surface finishes have to be of an especially high standard.
With this in mind, the company has succeeded in retaining a core group of staff, which – since the chrome and electroplating process require a high level of attention to detail – is vital.
Plastiplate, which now has ISO 9000 accreditation, is also involved in injection moulding as well as Vacuum Metalizing.   Besides moulding for customers, it is also able to service and modify customers’ moulds.
