AFRIMOLD SHOWS GROWTH POTENTIAL

Expo is long overdue, say exhibitors
South Africa holds major potential for investment in the mould-making, tooling, design and application development industries, which are in manufacturing for both local and export markets.
“There is an urgent need to boost this area of the economy,” says Ron MacLarty, MD of the new afrimold exhibition taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 16-18 August.
MacLarty is concerned that mould-making, tooling and design are skills that have been dwindling in SA. “We need to uplift this sector with new technology because nothing can be manufactured without a mould, tooling and design.”
A strong mould-making, tooling and design sector means a strong industrial economy, adds MacLarty. “Germany is a leader in the field, which has provided a powerful base for its success as an international exporter of quality finished goods. There is potential for South Africa to tread the same path.”
The afrimold Exhibition in Sandton is being organised by Direct Exposition Managing and Trading (DEMAT), which hosts the long-established and hugely successful EuroMold show in Germany.
Jim Plester of Machine Simulation SA, which is involved in CNC machine simulation, verification and optimisation software technology, says the afrimold exhibition is long overdue.
“We see the show as not only a great opportunity to demonstrate the power of our software technology and an opportunity to generate new business, but also as a platform for much-needed development of local skills,” added Plester.
Industrial design and manufacturing and design software specialist Creative Factory has 22 years of experience in the plastics injection moulding industry and serves the packaging, medical, automotive, computer, toy, house-ware and general consumer products industries. It is the South African agent for CimatronE, an Israeli-developed design and manufacturing software for the tool, die-making and manufacturing industries.
Retecon is another exhibitor that sees the development of skills as a priority for the industry in South Africa. It is a major marketer of a wide range of CNC machine tools which will be demonstrated at afrimold.
